ABOUT ME

David A. Maze, O.D.,FCOVD,FAAO

I was born in Elgin, Illinois. I received an OD degree from Illinois College of Optometry in 2003. After ICO I completed a Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation residency program at the State University of New York State Optometric Center in Manhattan.

I am a member of the American Optometric Association, Illinois Optometric Assn, Cornea and Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Assn, the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association and the Optometric Extension Program. I earned his Fellowship (Board Certification in Vision Therapy) in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development in 2007. I am also a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry.

When I finished my residency I purchased a primary eye care clinic that also did vision therapy. My practice grew from 20 vision therapy patients to over 60. I eventually opened a second clinic that was vision therapy only.

In 2022 I decided to move closer to family in Tennessee and join academia.

I can offer expertise and experience in helping offices learn vision therapy, manage staff, and navigate owning and operating a vision therapy clinic.

I enjoys running and have run many road races including several marathons, and has completed several triathlons including a full distance Ironman. I currently reside in Lakeland, TN with my wife and our three sons.

20 PLUS YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

When I graduated optometry school I had little to no business education. I bought into a practice and managed with a "hope and prayer." I didn't understand important metrics (key indicators), I didn't know how to manage employees, and I didn't have the cash flow or the space to grow.

Once I started making chairside recommendations, managing with statistics, empowering employees my practice grew exponentially.

My passion has always been in binocular vision and vision therapy and I grew a vision therapy only practice to over 60 active therapy patients a week.

From the initial triage call, to the patient consultation and enrollment I can show any practice how to be successful adding or growing pediatric and vision therapy specialties.

I You can reach out and schedule a consultation for free. I can give you quick fix tips and simple solutions.

If after that consultation you'd like to retain my services I will work with you on developing protocols to ensure growth.

I have years of experience in ownership and management of a private optometric practice. I have owned a full scope optometric practice as well as a specialty only vision therapy practice.
